Bus Accidents
In the U.S., especially in large metropolitan areas, millions rely on public transportation each day to get where they need to go. Buses are one of the most popular and reliable forms of public transportation available and, for many, using a bus is much more affordable than owning a car. Buses also take people on long-distance trips, heading to a variety of destinations across the country and giving travelers an opportunity to see the U.S.A. up-close.
In addition, every day in America, millions of children climb aboard those familiar big yellow school buses, headed for a day of new experiences in the world of education. Parents give little thought to allowing their children to ride these buses, assuming that those who drive and maintain them have the best interest of their children in mind.
Unfortunately, however, buses of all types are involved in thousands of accidents each year. As a matter of fact, the New York Department of Motor Vehicles reported more than 2,400 school bus accidents within the state in 2009 alone and thousands more involving city buses. Frighteningly, dozens are injured or die in tour bus accidents each year as well.
At the Law Offices of New York bus accident attorney Harley Fastman, we recognize that many of these accidents may be the result of negligence. These traumatic accidents are often caused by issues such as poor driver training, driving under the influence, speeding or other reckless driving practices, poor roadway conditions, and improper vehicle maintenance.
We recognize that due to someone’s blatant disregard for the safety of others, lives can change in just minutes. In an accident involving a bus, the bus almost always wins, resulting in traumatic injuries that might include amputation, spinal cord injuries, paralysis, brain and other head injuries, internal injuries, burns, and breaks. Fatalities occur regularly as well.
